Understanding human development is essential if we are to truly “help Life”, as Dr. Montessori said. The Montessori approach to education recognizes the varied needs of the child, and therefore, carefully prepares the environments based on developmental principles. In addition, Montessori educators are also well prepared themselves.
This involves not just the technical training for presenting lessons or the intensive study of child development, but, even more importantly, it is the “training of the spirit,” the inner preparation of the teacher.
During the month of August, a training course for assistants, administrators, lead teachers, and parents will be held at Montessori Tides School. Kathy Graham, Founder and Director of Montessori Tides School, will be key facilitator. Involved in Montessori since 1975, Ms. Graham holds an internationally recognized Montessori diploma (AMI) from Xavier University and a MS degree in Mental Health from Nova Southeastern University. She currently works as a 3-6 classroom directress, and is a Philosophy and Child Development instructor with the Orlando Montessori Teacher Education Institute.
