Egg Shell Grinding is a Practical Life work favored among preschool and elementary aged students at our Montessori School and is actually a very simple one to bring into your home. After all, growing families can easily go through a dozen eggs or more a week. Instead of throwing away the egg shells, how about letting your child grind the shells to give your garden natural nutrients?
To bring this work home you will need the following materials:
- Egg shells
- Small cup
- Hand Held Spade
Place the egg shell in a cup. With the mallet, grind egg shells into fine pieces. After grinding three to four shells, the child can then take the cup of ground shells and the spade and go anywhere in the garden to dig a hole and bury them.
Purpose of this work:
- Egg shell decomposes and enriches the soil
- Fine motor control
- Gross motor skills
- Concentration skills
If you don’t have these items in your home, Montessori Services has made it easy for you.
