Our studies of space will continue in October, but we also will begin to look closely into life on Earth. The children have received the Timeline of Life lessons, so more specific lessons about all Five Kingdoms of life can begin. The older children especially enjoy doing research on extinct animals, and many of the younger students will have opportunities to work alongside them to get exposure to true research skills. There are many opportunities to study other cultural topics, as well. This will include the makeup of volcanoes and what causes them to erupt; parts of the sun; and the Clock of Eras.
By the end of the month, your child will have researched and prepared a presentation about a historical figure for Historical Halloween. We will need your help with this! More information will follow. The children will have the opportunity to dress as the person they have researched when they present their project to the class. It is a fun way to practice some new skills and a chance to dress up!
Starting Our Day
I would like to stress the importance of having your child at school on time every day. Drop off begins at 8 a.m. The classroom doors are locked at 8:15 a.m. We begin our group meeting at 8:20 a.m., and lessons follow shortly after that.
When children arrive late, they miss things, and it disrupts the class. When the children are present for the start of our day, they are better able to feel a part of the community, and our classroom runs more smoothly without interruptions.
Every day, the children receive lessons, most of which build upon each other. Please help your child learn the importance of being present and on time on a regular basis. Thank you for your help in supporting the children to be successful!
Videos for Parents
In lieu of a Parents’ Night this year, you will receive a video of your child working in the classroom. Perhaps you can view the video as a family!
Parent/Teacher conferences will be Nov. 6. Sign-up sheets will be available at drop off and pick up, beginning later in October. I will allocate 20 minutes for each conference. If you feel you will need more time, please plan to sign up for two slots, or email me so that we can schedule a different time.
Historical Halloween will be celebrated Friday, Oct. 30. More information will be sent out shortly. We will make time after the presentations to take group photos. It’s a lot of fun for the children!
