As we celebrated the Upper Elementary graduation Wednesday, May 22, 2013, we honored Olivia Flack and her family, who have been a part of the MTS family for 14 years. Olivia Flack enrolled in Montessori Tides in 2003, following her older sister.
Olivia’s warm and gentle spirit has left a significant mark on so many lives in her 10-year period at MTS. She’s made a sea of friendships and eternal deposits of acceptance, love, compassion, and respect into the lives of those around her.
Here are a few words her friends had to say to her graduation night:
“I’m going to miss you very, very much. Even though I’m not going to be here next year, I’m going to miss you, and I’m sure everyone is going to miss you, too. You are one of my best friends (BFF’S). You are very smart and funny, and you always make me laugh. I think at your new school you’re going to make tons of friends. I can’t believe it’s your last year! I love you very, VERY much.” ~Valeria
“You are one of my best friends. I will love you and miss you. One of my most special times with Olivia is when Cosmo died. She wrote a sweet letter. I will miss you very, very, very much. You are very, very, very, very funny. You are very, very, very nice. You’re awesome Math Buddy! I hope you have fun at your new school.” ~ Amelia
“I can’t believe this is your last year here! Olivia you’re the nicest and sweetest person I know. You’re the best, and you’re also smart, beautiful, and talented. I’m so lucky to be best friends with you. I wish you good luck on your first year in middle school!!!” ~ Cady
When Ms. Nancy searched her heart for just one word to describe Olivia it was TRUST. Ms. Nancy also assured Olivia that her loyalty would be an asset wherever life takes her.
A 6th year graduation tradition at Montessori Tides School is to read the Dr. Seuss book, Oh, the Places You’ll the Go. Ms. Stephanie had the honor of reading this book. To her student Olivia, she said:
“It’s been a great year, one of accepting all differences modeled by Olivia. You’re the kindest and gentlest person that I know. It’s been wonderful to watch you grow and share your interest with us – how important your youth group is, love for fashion, and love for One Direction. It has been so wonderful to have your calm and warm presence in Upper Elementary. I know you will succeed in all you do, and you will carry your beautiful spirit with you. I will miss you so much.” ~ Ms. Stephanie
As Olivia departs MTS for Middle School, we say goodbye, not only to Olivia, but to her family, with whom we’ve shared the past 14 years. The Flack family will always be remembered for their faithful commitment to Montessori Tides. The celebration brought with it laughter, tears, hugs, jokes, good-byes and new hellos.
Olivia is a reminder to Montessori Tides that the seeds we plant grow a mighty tree where others can find rest.
