Our Upper elementary students rolled out of the school parking lot around 9:00 a.m. this morning with Ms. Nancy and a few parent chaperones for an overnight field trip to Driftwood Education Center! Some of our students have been looking forward to this trip since last year, so it was especially nice to see the class off today!
Driftwood is a non-profit environmental education facility focused on cultivating personal responsibility and awareness of our ecosystems. The students will enjoy hands-on learning over the next three days through a series of classes. A variety of live animals will aid in the learning process, including snakes, alligators, turtles, various marine life, and raptors.
Below is a link to a descriptive variety of day and night classes the students will take, including Shark Dissection, Evening Beach Exploration, and Fire Circle.
In order to offset the cost of this event, the Upper Elementary students conducted two Pizza Day fundraiser events. Many of you took advantage of this offer and enjoyed the day off from packing lunch. Thanks to your participation, the children raised $400 for the field trip and will enjoy a couple days off from the classroom and the profound experience of “going out.”
