In our own Montessori tradition, we held a special graduation ceremony for third-year lower elementary bridge students Thursday, May 22.
This ceremony is extremely special to us. We take this time to honor our student’s individual accomplishments and hear their sweet good-bye speeches to the lower elementary classroom.
As the celebration unfolds, the children share the special things they liked about their classroom, and the things they’re looking forward to in the “big wide world” of upper elementary with classmates, teachers and family members. Ms. Nancy recognizes her bridge students parents for their boundless and utterly consistent devotion to the three-year Montessori cycle.
“Montessori Tides School is a great place to be and we really appreciate you having stuck with us through the three year cycle.”
Parents also hear observations, special memories, and their child’s bright future, all which is showcased by Ms. Nancy during the gradation ceremony.
“An overall characteristic of this group is that they are not too cool for school and that they’re a tolerant, wonderful and accepting group. They are very compassionate for one another. The ways they would step in and protect, care or invite someone who may not have been included is a real important characteristic that we really work on in the Montessori curriculum and this group shows it tremendously,” said Ms. Nancy, Lead Lower Elementary teacher. “The whole person has been educated with this group. They all try hard and have a tremendous work ethic. I love this group!”
Instead of graduating and receiving a diploma, the children walk across a bridge to symbolize the Montessori “bridge” from one classroom to the next.
“With them they take a love of learning, a passion for understanding what is just and right,” said Ms. Nancy.
Meet Ms. Nancy’s 2014 “Not too cool for school” Third Year Bridge Students!
- Stay focused when you’re working.
- Help your protégé when they need you.
- Do what the teachers ask you to do.
I hope you have a nice year next year!
Thanks to my teachers and parents for making it possible for me to be here. I had so much fun in lower elementary. My advice to those younger than me is to listen to your teachers and be respectful to your peers. I’m ready to see you guys in upper elementary and I will always be friends with you in lower elementary. This is not good-bye. This is only the beginning.
I would like to thank my parents for sending me to Montessori Tides School.
My advice to first and second year students:
- Be helpful to your teachers and friends.
- Try to finish your work each day. But if you don’t you have tomorrow.
My advice to younger students:
- Stay focused.
- Be respectful.
- Be kind.
I want to thank my teachers for helping me. I want to thank my mom and dad for helping me with reading. I’m looking forward to next year because of new friends, a good teacher, and new work.
I will miss everyone!
One thing I have enjoyed about lower elementary is playing with my friends. I also enjoyed doing all the fun works here. I also love my teachers and parents. I want to thank them for making it possible for me to be here at Montessori Tides School. I would also like to thank some of my friends. I would like to thank Sophia for being a great friend. I would like to thank Grace and Ava for being there for me. Finally, I would like to give some advice to first and second year students:
- Listen not only to your teacher but also to everyone.
- Follow the classroom guidelines.
