Thanks to all of you for making our Thanksgiving Feast possible. We thoroughly enjoyed every bite of each dish. The children did a great deal of preparing the items for our feast. Upper Elementary joined us for a wonderful meal and sharing for what we are thankful. It was a special day enjoyed by all.
Common math studies have been; time, place value, and will soon be comparison of numbers (less than/greater than). I encourage you to use practical applications with your children whenever possible. For example, have your child tell you the time on an analog clock, an older student can tell you how long until the Birthday Party, ask them which is more and which is less in the kitchen or at the store. Incorporating math in your child’s daily life will reinforce what I tell them, “You will find as you grow, you will use math every day. Therefore, we practice it every day!” Thank you for your help! 😉
In our language arts area, first years have been studying nouns, articles and adjectives, capitalization and end marks, and how to write sentences. Second years have been reviewing nouns, articles, adjectives, and verbs. They have also been working and will continue working on the organization of their writing work.
Third years have received their final introductory grammar lesson; this will complete the lessons for the nine parts of speech. We will continue to study the parts of speech through our writing works. A special journal for students to write or draw their thoughts at home is always a great way to encourage language and writing skills!
The next three weeks we will be studying several different holidays around the world. Next week, each child will be assigned a group and a particular holiday to study. They will have guided questions to answer, a written report, a craft, and a diorama to create. Last but not least, some children will bring in a traditional food for their holiday of study, to share with the group during our Holiday Party on December 18th.
December 8 – Sweet Pete’s field trip – departure at 9:15, will return no later than 2:00
December 11 – 3rd Year students join Upper Elementary for the USO shopping trip to Publix
December 18 – Holiday Party and Early dismissal (parents need to attend) 11:00-11:45
*Let me know if you would like to chaperon the field trip or if you are a 3rd year parent, which would like to join us for our trip to Publix to shop for the USO.
P.S. Please remember to keep sending in shoe boxes for those amazing dioramas! Thank you!
