Summer is quickly approaching, and the excitement throughout the school is almost tangible. Teachers are preparing for the summer camp session at Montessori Tides School, and teachers are making plans for outdoor activities and relaxing with their families.
We will culminate our academic school year with studies on government, citizenship, an introduction to WWII, the Civil War, writing skills, integers, decimals, money, percent and algebra! Students are enjoying our work in art and peace.
We’re really impressed with how everyone has progressed this year!
Parent/Child Journaling
At this age, Upper Elementary children are growing out of the age where they are sensitive to order. They might become a little messier or not notice that their bodies are starting to smell differently.
As pre-teens and teenagers, they will start to pull away, showing behavior that appears that they want more space. However, they really need you to be more present. It will be a delicate time in your parenting.
One way you might approach this is to offer your child(ren) the choice between two activities, both of which give you quality time. Also, encourage your child to participate in a parent/child journal. There are several authors who sell their books on Amazon! During this time, also be aware of how often you use words of affirmation, including “I love you.”

Bridge Ceremony
Third-year and sixth-year parents are invited to MTS on the last day of school for our Bridge Ceremony and graduation at 10:45 a.m. It will be an early dismissal day; pick up is at 11:45 a.m. All guests should join us in Lower Elementary this year. The students are working hard on their speeches, so bring your tissues.
