Just a reminder that Friday, October 4 is planning day. No School!
As I write this, I am reminded of an encounter with a parent a few years ago at a local establishment where I was picking up lunch for the staff. I always enjoy seeing our families outside of the school environment. We had a nice short conversation and at the end the parent said, “enjoy your day off”. I chuckled to myself, as this didn’t feel like a day off.
I just want to take a moment and talk about planning days. I was a Montessori parent for many years before coming to work at MTS. I will be honest with you, at the time I wasn’t sure what a planning day was, what they were used for, and what the actual benefit was. What I did know was that is was an inconvenience to me. What I know now is that planning days are a very important part of what we do at MTS. These days are used for refreshing the environment, matching the classroom setup to the needs of the children, and meeting with staff to ensure we are serving the needs of the children. I also use to think that all of this could be done after hours or on weekends. I can assure you that your child’s teacher is working during those times too. Remember, I am married to one!
So, if you want to find us on our “Day Off”, don’t look for us at the beach, the pool, the garden, as we will be right here preparing for your children. Although, you might just see me out picking up lunch for the best staff in the world!
