Primary class has wintry works

A Primary student works with a tangram snowflake.

We had a few new faces join us after the winter break. We had three children move up from their toddler classrooms. As a reminder, since we have had some changes in our classroom, please do not send dairy, eggs, milk, soy or sesame for group snack.

The children have been exploring winter themes this month. Our unit studies have included Iceland, penguins and the parts of a penguin.

For art, they have created hole-punch snowflakes, tangram snowflakes, pin-punch snowmen, marble-painted snowflakes, and burlap sewing mittens.

For our math work, the children have been counting to 10 with penguin figures, and using penguins for addition, subtraction and multiplication.

Ms. Barbara and the children also have planted radishes in the garden. The children love to check on their radishes and can’t wait until they can harvest.

A student in Ms. Kate’s Primary class works with the new Continent Readers.
The older Primary children will write about what they have learned from the new Continent Readers.

I would like to thank the Montessori Tides Children’s Foundation for helping us bring the Waseca Continent Readers into our classroom. The 4-year-olds listen as a teacher reads and then they match pictures to words. The older children read, match and then write about what they learned.
