Happy October Toddler Families!
We have had a great end of September and start of October! Hopefully it will start to cool down soon and we won’t have so many mosquitoes to deal with. If you want your child to have bug spray applied please bring it in and I will give you the health form to fill out so we can apply it to your child.
With cooler weather comes sweaters and jackets. I would like to share with you the “jacket flip” method that we use in the classroom. This allows the child to learn how to put on a jacket almost completely by themselves. Consistency at home with this method can assist them on their way towards mastery of this new skill. The child lays the jacket on the floor with the inside up. The child stands near the hood or collar side. The child puts their hands in each corresponding sleeve, then flips it over their head while inserting their arms deeper. Your child may need some help with buttoning or initiating the zipper. For those of you that are visual learners, you can visit YouTube and see it under these titles: “Cara putting on her coat” or “jacket flip”.
We have been baking muffins every Wednesday or Thursday. This is always very popular with the toddlers, as they get to pour in the honey, mix the flour and chop the secret ingredient. The rooms smells so good, we can hardly wait for them to finish cooking!
We used planning day to prepare the children’s environment for October. The color will be orange and we will have lots of pumpkin works, including a favorite… pumpkin scrubbing. There will also be pumpkin counting, sorting, decorating and even carving at the end of the month. We will also have mask making, songs and poems.
5 little pumpkins were sitting on the gate,
The first one said: ‘oh my, it’s getting late’
The second one said: ‘I see witches in the air’
The third one said: ‘we don’t care’
The fourth one said: ‘let’s run and run and run.’
The fifth one said: ”I’m ready for some fun!’
Woooo went the wind, and out went the light, (with a clap)
And five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.
Halloween Cat! Halloween Cat!
Why do you howl and meow like that?
Neither I nor the moon, like your tune
So Scat! Halloween Cat!
We want to welcome our new student Noelle and her family to our Montessori Tides community.
I uploaded new pictures to Snapfish. Here is the link again if you didn’t get it before:
