Summer is quickly approaching, and the excitement throughout the school is almost tangible. Teachers are preparing for the summer camp session at Montessori Tides School, and children are making plans for outdoor activities and relaxing with their families.
We will culminate our academic school year with our study of the presidents of the United States; World War I; Florida’s economy and government; writing skills; integers; decimals; and algebra.
Students also are enjoying our study of yoga, art and peace. Their balance and calm nature is impressive.

Recently, we had our final parent education night of the school year. The topic this year was “Education for Peace.” This night was inspired by the author of a book on non-violence, and a comparison between Waldorf and Montessori education.
At this age, Upper Elementary children are growing out of the stage where they are very sensitive to order. They might become a little messier or not notice that their bodies are starting to smell different.
As preteens and teenagers, they will start to pull away, showing behavior that appears that they want more space. It will be a delicate time in your parenting. I have recently found a set of mother/child journals that could be a great addition to your communication and home lives. Please ask me or check out my Amazon wish list if you want details.
Third-year and 6th-year parents are invited to MTS on the last day of school for our bridge ceremony and graduation at 11 a.m. It will be an early dismissal day; pick up is at 11:45 a.m.
All guests should join us in Upper Elementary this year. The students are working hard on their speeches, so bring your tissues.
Thank you to all who have donated items and time to our classroom!
Please join us for our annual end-of-the-year picnic on Thursday, May 31, at the Pablo Bay community pool.
