Dress Code: Montessori Tides has established a dress code for children in the Primary and Elementary classes. This policy has been set up to ensure a safe, peaceful and less distracting learning environment. First, please do not send your children to school in clothes that are difficult to manage—too small, too large, or too “dressy”. Loose, casual, comfortable clothing is recommended. Specific clothing may include: appropriate length shorts or skirts, pants (not too tight or too baggy), dresses (not too short and no spaghetti straps), t-shirts and sweatshirts (no cartoon characters), shirts (no spaghetti straps, no see through fabric, no midriff exposure), and sweaters (not too tight). Secondly, we request that footwear be limited to only tennis shoes or oxford-type shoes or sandals with straps and socks—no party shoes, heels of any kind, boots, strapless/backless sandals or clogs. Shoes suitable for physical activity (playground and physical education) are required for safety. Please note – If your child comes to school in clothing that is not consistent with the Dress Code, a reminder will be sent home regarding non-compliance. If it happens again the parent will be called to bring appropriate clothing to school for the child.
Personal Belongings: Please keep gum, candy, toys, money and jewelry at home. If your child is still strongly attached to a “lovie” of some sort, please let us know, so that we can help him/her begin the separation process from this object of attachment. When a child still needs some type of object of comfort, then we do allow them to bring it to school, where it is kept safely in a basket, available to them only if the need arises.
